I shot a wedding in washington dc, a few years back and the sister of the groom had just started getting into photography. since then we have chatted a few times about the biz and she recently has started a photographer directory and featured me on it! how great! take a look:

disney criminal

last night grant and I went to disneyland for 1 hour. our passes expire on monday and we were down in the area so we popped by for the last hour the park was open. In the short hour we were there we rode big thunder mountain, haunted mansion and pirates of the caribbean and were then escorted out of the park by security. yep. escorted by security.

The whole thing was pretty ridiculous but pretty rad all at the same time. it involved us having our own boat on pirates (because it was 10mins before closing). they sat us in the middle row of the boat and half way through the ride we decided we wanted to move up a row..or two. yes, we knew it would be breaking a rule to jump seats during the ride, but we waited till it was practically stationary and no one was with us and we follow the rules way to much. so we jumped up a row. we thought we had outsmarted them and done it in the darkest spot (are their cameras infrared?). after we had done it they asked us through muffled speaker voices to move back a row. we did. I thought it was over after that, but as the ride ended the president of disneyland rules (or so it seemed) and a security officer were waiting for us. they threatened to take our season passes away. we acted aloof and innocent. "we only wanted a better seat...". they acted like they were giving us a lucky break by letting us walk this time, BUT next time we won't be so lucky. apparently we now have a tainted record. are they serious?! wow!

It was kind of embarrassing considering how old we are, but maybe it's just what I needed to remind me, with the 3-0 birthday coming upon me, that i'm still young and reckless. definitely made me feel young...maybe too young. I don't think poor grant had ever broken any rules, so as the sweat gathered on his innocent brow I soothed him with the positive, at least we didn't get thrown in disney jail.

oh, disneyland. how unreal can one place be?

ps. you may be more like crazyland but I love your vintage posters!!

the haunted mansion one has always been my favorite! but the tomorrowland ones are pretty amazing.

here's one place you can buy them...but I'm sure there's others.

I love him

I do miss "naked chef" but "jamie at home" is SO good. makes me want a garden something awful. nothing is more exciting that when he whizzes stuff up. I could watch him whiz all day.

watch him on the food network saturday mornings (or tivo and watch him over and over).

white family- laguna beach

this family is seriously awesome.

I photographed their wedding almost exactly a year ago and even on that very day, when I didn't really know either of them, I felt like I did. they are so gracious, laid back and just all around beautiful people.

their son riley is so adorable. I love the fact that both of his parents practically grew up in the ocean and he doesn't want to come within 20 feet of it. he would scream and point to land any time we even approached foam...but as you can see as long as we were a healthy distance away he was super easy to photograph. by the end of the shoot he had lost all fear (and I dare say may have developed a crush) and was all up in my wide angle's grill...made for some GREAT images.

thanks you guys for yet another fun saturday at the beach house.

(psss. this location is where we will be having our wedding dinner/party....I am seriously freaking out over it. private beach cove, complete with a fire pit inside the beach house!!! thank you so much m & p!! xxoo)

I need a new planner

I am a paper planner sort of girl. I know some are super electro with their calenders, but I need to scribble. I had a perfect 2008 planner from staples. It had monthly views and weekly with tons of blanks pages and spaces for my lists, but it is no more! I can't find it anywhere. I did find these:

..from here and they look pretty great, but I can't see the month view...what if the cover is flimsy and the paper is cheap?

does anyone have any paper planners they love? or are all of you reading this post from your iphone and wondering what "paper" is?

purrrlicious

saturday we took some pretty great shots of purrington. we needed to showcase his long hair before a cut. more of these lates.

just got back from hawaii and have a lot of stuff to edit through and will be doing that in the next day or two..be expecting, more white family, more hawaii, more purrington, more weddings.

shave ice w/ ice cream

since I am in hawaii again I thought it might be fitting to post some more hawaii images from my last spin here.

here is coconut and passion fruit shave ice on top of macadamia nut ice cream, oh with toasted coconut on top. thank you ever much shave ice truck in hanalei. I love you so very much.

what's up to me

just a little shadow of myself saying what up to my initials I saw in the sidewalk while strolling through hanalei a few weeks ago.

...and now I am in oahu, staying in laie for the week... here for the photography workshop. thanks to the interweb I will still try to post something every day I am, but don't mistake post blogs with me being in front of my computer. you can still email and call me if needed but I might not be able to respond till the evenings.

aloha and mahalo.

happy halloween!

here are two of my cutest of cute, ms. bat woman and mr. car man.

they tried their costumes on for me last time I was in utah. you should have seen mr. car man's face when he saw himself in his car outfit standing on top of the bathroom counter....It's the first time I've seen his expression say "I am seriously the coolest".

so today I am imagining their little faces making all sorts of expressions as they stuff their faces with candy and feel super awesome.

happy happy halloween little monsters!

(ps. line through the images due to a bad scan. argh.)

my kauai peeps

grandpa smoot and grandma thurston/smoot are two of the crumpliest people I know. I could just squish them up. love, love, love them. I will never be able to shake the tune of "you jack of diamonds you rob my pocket.." from playing in my head. thank you for an amazing vacation.

kate sometimes can be found in trees. she is no doubt thinking some deep profound thought. ke'e beach makes you do that. love you little climbing tree sister.
shauna is maybe the worlds "hippest" mom. she was an inspiration and I found such a great friend in her. Loved getting to know her. can I be like you when I grow up?
lauren (shauna's daughter) was on a bit of a roller coaster this trip, but handled everything she is going through with the grace and the poise of someone much older than her age. she is a beauty inside and out. LOVE her and can't wait to see how her story continues.
bye bye hawaii...until sunday.

creep me out, PLEASE!

all I wanted was to take a graveyard tour this last weekend, when I discovered los angeles doesn't have NIGHT time tours (due to safety, permits, blah, blah, blah!!). who wants to walk through a graveyard at noon? not this gal. so I suggested sneaking into one....I think purr was the only one who supported the idea. he also suggested we try to get abducted. that's what I'm talking about!! what can I do that's really scary for halloween? ideas....

lisa and dave's wedding

I guess when I promised I would post these the next day...I meant the next day I posted. I don't usually post on the weekends. sorry about that. to make up for it I am posting a lot of images from this wedding. when I say a lot I mean almost 80. you might wonder if I have an editing problem. YES! Is there a help group for people like me who can't choose?! the real problem I have (among many) is I feel like I am doing an injustice to the "story" by taking parts out. How do you know it was snowing if you can't see the children reaching for it outside? how do you know lisa let her hair down if I don't show her letting loose? how will you become as obsessed with dave's infectious smile if I don't show the smile while he's busting some hardcore moves on the dance floor? see my dilemma? dilemma solved! post 80 images!

A really, really fun wedding. this group can dance. I wish all of you could have seen and heard their DJ. amazing is the only word to describe him. He participated almost more than best man or girl. wow.

love you two!!!! happy life!

hawaii take 2

some of you may be mad when I tell you this, but good friendships have to be based on honesty, so here goes.....in about a week I am jumping on a plane back to hawaii.

I know I haven't even been home from my last hawaii trip for 2 weeks and I know this will be my 3rd hawaii trip this year, but not everything in my life is great. I have a really cluttered desk, all of my shoes are outdated and I have to kill about 8 spiders a day...PLUS I have barely any counter space in my kitchen which makes it very hard to cook in there let alone re-create that 'what about bob' scene, where they are doing dishes and bill murray sings, "I'm singing in the kitchen with a bowl full of chicken...." my kitchen is never that happy.

I regress. I'm going back.. and feel pretty lucky about it.

I decided last minute to attend workshop that my photographer friend jonathan canlas is having. I get to shoot film for a whole week and eat delicious food and talk shop with a bunch of photo nerds like myself. I am so excited to shoot some stuff for ME and just fung shui myself back into the reasons why I first started taking photographs.

jonathan posted a little welcome to me here on his 'film is not dead' blog, along with this photo he took from one of my best girls weddings, mala. (frenchie, shown with me).

thanks jon for inspiring me to jump on board. I can't get to humidity fast enough.
