Bugaboo + Oh Joy

I had such a fun time shooting Joy and her family for Bugaboo.

We ventured around LA for a couple days and I was able to shoot a scrumptious toddler and an amazingly beautiful product. Is there any denying Bugaboo makes the best strollers? OR that Joy and Bob make the best toddlers?

It was so great meeting the Bugaboo team and The Cho Family. Here's to hoping there are more shoots with both of them in my future.

These are some of my favorites shots but if you haven't already, check out Joy's post. It's a good one.

xxoo.

New Websites!

If there was one project I needed to finish in the last couple of months it was this...and let me tell you it feels great! After months of editing and choosing and years of putting it off, I finally have two brand new websites to showcase my most current work.

The first site is a revised version of my wedding and portrait site. The second site is a brand new beauty showcasing some of my commercial and editorial work.

Both can be accessed through www.rachelthurston.com

Want to reach just my wedding and portrait work? Visit here: www.rachelthurston.com/weddings Want to reach just my commercial work? Visit here: www.1978portfolio.com

Hope you like what you see. I am sure there will be little tweaks in the coming weeks...but for now it will do.

Ah. Posting this feels SO good. Now I am going to go kick my feet up and try to find something to eat with whipped cream.

South Island- New Zealand

Remember when we traveled to New Zealand over a year ago? Yeah, me too.

Better late than never is becoming a mantra over in these parts.

After having my images and our story featured in Wayfare Magazine this last summer, I have been meaning to share a few of my favorite images from the trip. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Lately I have been having a serious itch to travel far far away...and I'm due to give birth in about 7 weeks :/ So, instead, I will look at these photos, close my eyes and try with all my might to imagine I am within a arms reach of that magical glacier water once again.

This place was incredible.

Published in Wayfare Magazine!

Remember when we took that roadtrip in New Zealand? Wayfare Magazine shared our adventure in their summer issue! You can see the goodness here.

I shot all of the images shared in the issue with my contax 645 and kodax ektar 100.

I have been dying to share these images with you and now I finally can. Look for more New Zealand posts coming up.

Big thanks to Wayfare Magazine for sharing my images and words. I was so in love with their pilot issue...it is such an honor to have worked with them and be featured along side so many other talented photographers and writers.

Can you tell I'm excited?!

Here is a little sneak peak (that I already shared on instagram. Follow me! _rachelthurston) of a super amazing project I have been working on.

I find that most of my personal projects end up being a challenge..and in turn produce some of the most gratifying images.

Thank you to all the moms and babes that participated.

I'm sure other artists can relate..but I lay in bed most nights and my mind turns with ideas and dreams and concepts and images. Having one of those mind turning ideas come to fruition brings tears to my eyes. Photography means so much to me. I feel so grateful.

Headshots are a lot of fun to shoot.

I love having a home "studio" with lots of great light to choose from.

Let me know if you are in need of new headshots..I don't think I would mind shooting more. I do live near Hollywood after all.

Featured on Ohdeedoh Today!

Ohdeedoh (of Apartment Therapy) asked how the heck we made our atomic mobile in Nova's nursary. I borrowed the idea from Old Brand New after not finding a pre-made one I could just buy that would match the aesthetic of our home. This idea was perfect, cheap and took about 5mins to assemble.

Go here to see a close up and details of how I made it.

Thanks Katie for wanting to share with your readers!

Featured on Design Sponge!

Today the interiors I shot of Julie and Rob's house are on Design Sponge. Go here to see  all the pretty images and read what Julie has to say about her home.

What a great way to start the week!

Thanks to Design Sponge for featuring my work...and thanks to Julie for having my photograph her beautiful space.

Design Sponge Book Signing LA

Design Sponge just posted images from their west coast tours including their stop in LA, which I photographed.

To check out more of the images visit their site here and their facbook page here for all of the photobooth shots.

I had such a great time and meet so many beautiful artistic people. Grace and Amy really impressed me. After weeks of intense travelling they were still the friendliest pair in the room..chatting it up with everyone and genuinely interested in all their adoring fans.

So happy for them and the new gorgeous book. So much hard work really paid off.

(*Illustration above by Julia Rothman, borrowed from design sponge)

I am shooting Design Sponge's LA book tour tonight! I know the guest list filled up quickly but hopefully I will see some of you there.

Go here for more informaion. Excited to finally meet the Design Sponge crew (especially Amy and Grace). Thank you in advance for asking me to help out tonight.

Remember when they featured the little blue house? Best ever.

Julie Maigret Design

I was commissioned to shoot this LA home styled by the talented Julie Maigret. You even get a family shot of Julie, Rob and their 3 kids.

Ummm..this house is amazeballs and I want everything in it.

If you are interested in having me photograph interiors or exteriors of your space email me at info@rachelthurston.com.

Michelle & Film

I love how forgiving film is with highlights. I can overexpose almost any film 2 stops...not so with digital my friends.

All shot with the hasselblad 501cm, 80mm lens, ilford 3200 and portra 400. (Thanks to Richards Photo Lab for the processing and scans. I didn't do any adjustments or crops..they did all the post work for me!)

...but who really cares how I shot this and with what camera? I think what matters most was the pretty light and the red curls.

Published in Olive Magazine

I interrupt baby mania to actually talk business. Imagine that!

Olive Magazine/Philippines contacted me about wanting to use some of the images I shot of French Laundry for their February Issue. I was thrilled. Not only did I get to relive all of the delicious moments while going through the shots but one of my favorite subjects was given due attention..FOOD.

I haven't really talked about this..but I have a 2nd website that is waiting patiently to go live featuring more of my commercial and editorial work. This will be a nice addition to the site. Stay tuned for the launch.

A huge foodie thank you to Olive Magazine for featuring my work.
