pirates cove 2008

10+ years ago this was a spring break dream. there was never any thought to any other place we would rather go. there was no place better. now 10yrs later, there is still no place better. I'm usually not one for staying at one place more than a couple of days, but I can honestly say I could spend 2 weeks at pirates cove and still not have had enough time.

the slides, the pool side chairs, the weather, the water temperature, grilling meat, smores, the views, the TV's, the waterproof remote control, the babies.....all the adorable babies, the music, the blue floaty mats, cold water in every fridge, the ice cream machine, the hammocks....oh the hammocks, the hammock up top, the hammocks over the pool, the hot tubs, going double down the slide, the rattlesnakes, the misty fans, the mermaid and merman club, all the stairs, high school girlfriends all grown up with beautiful families.....

we loved pirates cove!! thank you to beana and her family for being so fun and generous. We missed captain jack (aka: craig) but felt nothing but love for the fabulous hiatus he created.
here are some highlights from the weekend. (you may recognize one of my usual muses....love that face.)

molly sims

"celebrity" is such a weird concept for me. thursday as I was shooting, I thanked my lucky stars (pun intended) that I don't make my living as a celebrity photographer... paparazzi, event shooters etc...It's just not my cup of tea. I wasn't there to shoot celebrity's, but in one of my non shooting moments I stopped to watch as molly arrived and stopped for photos on the red carpet. hoards of photographers and cameras were flashing and calling her name. "molly, right here", "molly, give us a big smile". I was bugged for her. Although certain obligations come with certain jobs (like molly on the red carpet) I didn't envy her.

I was talking to one of the bouncers from The Republic, the restaurant in west hollywood where the party was, and he was saying that he has met and seen hundreds of celebrity's come in and out of his restaurant. One thing that he has learned is that they deal with all of the same problems we do...self esteem, family issues, money troubles, debt...money and fame don't make a person happy. So the bouncer and I, as we were solving all the worlds problems, came to one of my favorite conclusions: happiness is a choice.

So I will choose to be happy with my journey as a photographer, as should the celebrity photographers and the celebrity's themselves.

...and I will remain happy that I am not paparazzi.

acura's "capture the night" event

Last night my favorite production company (wink wink) Vox, hired me to shoot decor and general atmosphere for an event hosted by Gen Art celebrating the release of a new Acura. I like shooting spaces. I get to concentrate on details and lighting, two things I heart.

Stayed tuned tomorrow for images of the event's host, Molly Sims (oooh exciting!!).

ink threat

Some friends of mine started this company and I am super excited for them! Anyone can submit designs for tee shirts clothing etc...and people vote. If your design is chosen it is printed and sold and you make money. not bad, not bad at all . Check it out at inkthreat.com

top chef

...I wish.

I think it's a rule that if you love photography you love food as well. those of us who are obsessed with the "senses" are a close knit bunch. I love the window light in my bathroom almost as much as I love wearing a big baggy sweatshirt, and I love the sound of crickets almost as much as I love the smell of onions and garlic sauteing...and taste! is there anything better than a fresh sunrise papaya with a squeeze of lime hitting your lips? what about bacon?!! bacon, bacon, bacon...
>
I even spent the majority of sunday morning looking up culinary schools in NYC. It's a serious thought.

so, with food on the brain, I thought it fitting to share some "food" photos.

bon appetit!

Ever been to Needles CA? Maybe Laughlin NV? I bought this delicious orange blossom honey off the side of the road in Needles. VERY good...and almost gone. go here to buy some.

I have a cute little meyer lemon tree, and when it was ripe for the picking I made a german pancake (shown) and some meyer lemon sorbet (not shown). both were good enough to eat.
