I experimented with adding fresh vanilla bean into the sweet batter. I was glad. you should try it.
purrrrrrrrrrr
that flea market rocks by the way.
the perfect day
the 4th of july really was quite a perfect day....minus the fact that I should have been taking more pictures.
we got the best parking spot at the beach (minus the neighboring spider web), surfed, read, ate, saw the afternoon showing of kung foo panda at the imax, watched fireworks at the local high school, ate a hot dog, homemade potato salad, corn on the cob and sour cream and onion lays. g also had the best idea to pack a thermos of hot chocolate to sip on as we watched fireworks. can you say perfection? then back at home we lite some of our own fireworks and stink bombs on the street and ended with playing crack the egg on the tramp.
I slept like a baby that night.

stars and stripes
the other night while laying on my tramp I saw a shooting star...right here in LA! (grant saw 3..or so he says)....it got me thinking...
the subject of "if you could be anywhere for the 4th of july where would you be?" came up today, and without much thought I blurted out, "laying on the roof of a houseboat in the middle of lake powell watching an amazing firework show and then staring at the stars". I was asked if I had ever watched a firework show in the middle of lake powell and I said no. I didn't know it had to be a realistic circumstance. adding to my original idea, I would also like to be eating a papaya as this happened and then go for a night swim in the nude and look like angelina jolie.
happy independence day.

grand casino
this oddly named place is an Argentinian-owned bakery/cafe/restaurant near my home in culver city CA. It has mixed reviews but I had a good time there once with an empanada. the empanadas are baked, have a nice filling and are raisin-less. I would have lunch with them again. (photo: grand casino's empanada)
when I was in cusco peru this last year, my friend SJ told us to look for a bakery that had baked empanadas and we found it!! those puppy's were very addicting. what was that place called?....they were listed in lonely planet..
turns out I like pastry filled with meat. who knew!!
tres leches
while I am on the subject of food I thought we better talk about this keeper.
this milk cake is kind of a dream come true. grant enjoys it so much that he now uses it as reference to explain anything he REALLY loves,"I tres leches love that!!"
milky, rich, spongy and delicious. no leftovers guaranteed.
for fellow foodies who have been patiently awaiting the release of the magic combo, the wait is over.
thank you sweetened condensed milk.
where's the bacon?
so, I was searching online for tips on roasting a whole pig...because I wanted to roast one in my backyard (that's normal, right?)...
now, I just feel confused. why do I want to eat little pigs?! WHY!!

nellie & kent's engagements
this last weekend we took san juan capistrano by storm! I loved searching out a new location to shoot at and I think we found the perfect spot to give this couple the different feel/look they were going for. the train station downtown, by the mission had what I thought was a perfect mix of classy and causal.
engagements are a great way for the couple to become familiar with the photographer before the wedding day and likewise its nice to get a feel for the personality's of the couple before shooting the wedding. I'm being honest when I say, I feel like I was kicking with friends at this shoot. laid back, open to ideas and we all sweated out the 90degree plus weather together. nothing like sweating together, to bond together.
so fun! can't wait to turn nellie into the diva she is for the bridal shoot.
terrible two's
dessert time
photo shoot of my nieces and nephews during my last trip to utah. for some reason when I look at these images as a whole I feel like crying....and not in a "these are so hideous I can't stand looking at them" sort of way, but in a, "really? you're that big...that old..that smart?". It's almost more than I can stand. these kids are just so delicious, they give me a permanent stomach ache.

the mailman
I revisited these images this week for a past client. He was commissioned to sculpt both the statues of Karl Malone and John Stockton that live outside the Delta Center in SLC. I took some photos of him working in the final stages of the Malone statue. seriously amazing. it took up his entire front room...and then some. How do you keep your perspective working on something that large? How do you create a head 10 times the size of yours?

children kids
some of my friends are part of this new childrens cartoon. the artwork is fantastic and the little voice they use for the main character is perfect.
